안전한 장소
나는 딸과 함께 대가족 모임에 참석할 계획을 짜고 있었습니다. 딸이 그 여행에 대해 긴장하고 있어서 내가 운전하면 어떻겠냐고 물었습니다. “좋아요. 하지만 저는 제 차 안이 더 안전하게 느껴져요. 아빠가 제 차를 운전해 주실래요?”라고 딸이 물었습니다. 나는 딸이 작은 내 차보다 더 크고 넓은 자기 차를 더 좋아해서 그럴 거라고 짐작하고 이렇게 대답했습니다. “내 차가 너무 비좁지?” “아뇨. 그냥 제 차가 저의 안전한 장소라서 그래요. 어쩐지 제 차 안에 있어야 보호받는다는 느낌이 들어요.”
딸의 말은 나에게 나 자신의 개인적인 “안전한 장소”에 대해 생각하게 해주었습니다. 즉시 “여호와의 이름은 견고한 망대라 의인은 그리로 달려가서 안전함을 얻느니라”라는 잠언 18장 10절 말씀이 떠올랐습니다. 구약시대에 도시의 성벽과 망대는 외부로부터의 위험을 경고하고 내부에 있는 시민들을 보호하는 역할을 하였습니다. 성경저자가 말하고자 하는 바는 하나님의 성품과 인격, 그리고 그분에 대한 모든 것을 드러내는 그분의 이름이 그의 백성들에게 진정한 보호를 제공해준다는 것입니다.
어떤 물리적 공간들은 위험해 보이는 순간에 우리가 간절히 바라던 안전을 제공해줍니다. 폭풍우 속에 머리 위의 견고한 지붕이나, 의료 진료를 제공해주는 병원, 그리고 사랑하는 이의 포옹 같은 것들이 그렇습니다.
당신의 “안전한 장소”는 무엇입니까? 하지만 어디서 안전을 구하든지, 그 공간에서 우리에게 진실로 필요한 힘과 보호를 제공해주는 것은 우리와 함께 하시는 하나님입니다.

딸의 말은 나에게 나 자신의 개인적인 “안전한 장소”에 대해 생각하게 해주었습니다. 즉시 “여호와의 이름은 견고한 망대라 의인은 그리로 달려가서 안전함을 얻느니라”라는 잠언 18장 10절 말씀이 떠올랐습니다. 구약시대에 도시의 성벽과 망대는 외부로부터의 위험을 경고하고 내부에 있는 시민들을 보호하는 역할을 하였습니다. 성경저자가 말하고자 하는 바는 하나님의 성품과 인격, 그리고 그분에 대한 모든 것을 드러내는 그분의 이름이 그의 백성들에게 진정한 보호를 제공해준다는 것입니다.

Your Safe Place
My daughter and I were arranging to attend an extended family gathering. Because she was nervous about the trip, I offered to drive. “Okay. But I feel safer in my car. Can you drive it?” she asked. I assumed she preferred her more spacious vehicle to my compact one so I responded, “Is my car too cramped?” “No, it’s just that my car is my safe place. Somehow I feel protected there.”
Her comment challenged me to consider my own personal “safe place.” Immediately I thought of Proverbs 18:10, “The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” In Old Testament times, the walls and watchtower of a city provided warning of danger from without and shielding for its citizens within. The writer’s point is that God’s name, which stands for His character, person, and everything that He is, provides true protection for His people.
Certain physical places promise longed-for safety in moments that seem dangerous. A sturdy roof overhead in the midst of a storm. A hospital offering medical care. The embrace of a loved one.

The writer’s point is that God’s name, which stands for His character, person, and everything that He is, provides true protection for His people.
Certain physical places promise longed-for safety in moments that seem dangerous. A sturdy roof overhead in the midst of a storm. A hospital offering medical care. The embrace of a loved one.

끊이지 않는 아름다움
나는 그랜드캐년을 바라보는 것을 매우 좋아합니다. 그 협곡의 한 가장자리에 서있을 때마다, 나는 숨을 멎게 만드는 하나님의 일하시는 새로운 손길을 봅니다.
그랜드캐년은 비록 땅에 있는 하나의 (거대한) “구덩이”에 불과하지만, 그것은 나에게 천국을 생각하게 합니다. 언젠가 아주 순진한 12살 된 아이가 내게 이렇게 물었습니다. “천국은 지루하지 않을까요? 늘 하나님을 찬양하느라 지겨워질 것 같지 않아요?” 하지만 만일 “땅에 파여 있는 구덩이”가 엄청나게 아름다워서 한시도 눈을 뗄 수 없을 정도라면, 언젠가 모든 새로운 창조 세계의 때 묻지 않은 경이로움들 속에서 바로 그 아름다움의 원천이신 우리의 사랑하는 창조주를 보게 될 때의 기쁨이 어떨지 과연 상상이나 할 수 있을까요?
다윗은 이 열망을 이렇게 표현했습니다. “내가 여호와께 바라는 한 가지 일 그것을 구하리니 곧 내가 내 평생에 여호와의 집에 살면서 여호와의 아름다움을 바라보며 그의 성전에서 사모하는 그것이라” (시편 27:4). 우리가 하나님과 얼굴을 마주 볼 것을 기대하며 이 땅에서 믿음으로 그분을 추구할 때 우리에게 가까이 다가오시는 하나님의 임재보다 더 아름다운 것은 없습니다.
그날이 오면 우리는 놀라우신 하나님을 찬양하는 것에 전혀 지치지 않을 것입니다. 왜냐하면 우리는 하나님의 작품들이 보여주는 선함과 경이로움이 너무 정교하다는 것을 끊임없이 계속하여 새롭게 발견하게 될 것이기 때문입니다. 하나님이 함께 하시는 그 모든 순간에 그분의 아름다움과 사랑이 숨 막히도록 환하게 드러날 것입니다.

When Beauty Never Ends
I love looking at the Grand Canyon. Whenever I stand at the canyon rim I see new brushstrokes of God’s handiwork that take my breath away.
Even though it’s just a (very large) “hole” in the ground, the Grand Canyon causes me to reflect on heaven. A very honest twelve-year-old asked me once, “Won’t heaven be boring? Don’t you think we’ll get tired of praising God all the time?” But if a “hole in the ground” can be so overwhelmingly beautiful we can’t stop looking at it, we can only imagine the joy of one day seeing the very Source of beauty—our loving Creator—in all of the pristine wonder of the new creation.
David expressed this longing when he wrote, “One thing I ask from the LORD , this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the LORD ” (PS. 27:4). There’s nothing more beautiful than the presence of God, which draws near to us on this earth as we seek Him by faith, looking forward to seeing Him face to face.
On that day we’ll never tire of praising our amazing Lord, because we will never come to an end of fresh, new discoveries of His exquisite goodness and the wonders of the works of His hands. Every moment in His presence will bring a breathtaking revelation of His beauty and His love. - JAMES BANKS

우리에게 능력이 있습니다!
탁탁 하는 소리가 크게 나 깜짝 놀랐다가 곧 무슨 소리인지를 알고는 부엌으로 달려갔습니다. 내가 실수로 비어있는 커피메이커의 시작 버튼을 눌렀던 겁니다. 전기 코드를 뽑고 커피 주전자의 손잡이를 잡은 다음, 주전자가 타일로 된 주방 조리대에 올려놓기에 너무 뜨겁지는 않은지 확인하려고 바닥에 손을 댔다가 그만 손가락을 데어 약한 피부에 물집이 생겼습니다.
남편이 내 상처를 돌보아줄 때, 나는 고개를 절레절레 흔들었습니다. 나는 그 주전자의 유리가 뜨거운 것을 알고 있었던 것입니다. 나는 “그것을 왜 만졌는지 솔직히 나도 잘 모르겠네.”라고 말했습니다.
그런 실수를 저지른 후 내가 보인 반응을 보면서, 성경이 말하는 보다 심각한 문제인 죄의 본성에 대한 바울의 반응이 생각났습니다.
바울은 자신이 해서는 안 되는 일들과 하고 싶지 않은 일들을 왜 하게 되는지 모르겠다고 인정합니다(로마서 7:15). 성경이 옳고 그른 것을 결정해준다고 분명히 말하면서(7절), 그는 죄와의 싸움에 있어서 자신의 육체와 영혼 사이에 실제적이고 복잡한 전쟁이 끊임없이 일어나고 있다는 사실을 인정합니다(15-23절). 그는 자신의 나약함을 고백하면서, 지금부터 영원까지 승리할 수 있는 희망을 제시해줍니다(24-25절).
우리의 삶을 그리스도께 드릴 때, 주님은 우리에게 성령님을 주셔서 우리가 옳은 일을 하도록 선택할 수 있게 해주십니다(8:8-10). 성령께서 우리로 하나님의 말씀에 따라 살게 하시기 때문에, 우리는 하나님께서 그분을 사랑하는 사람들에게 약속하신 풍성한 삶으로부터 우리를 갈라놓는 죄를 피할 수 있습니다.

We’ve Got the Power!
The loud crackling noise startled me. Recognizing the sound, I raced to the kitchen. I’d accidently tapped the start button on the empty coffee maker. Unplugging the appliance, I grabbed the handle of the carafe. Then I touched the bottom of the container to ensure it wasn’t too hot to place on the tile counter. The smooth surface burned my fingertips, blistering my tender skin.
As my husband nursed my wound, I shook my head. I knew the glass would be hot. “I honestly do not know why I touched it,” I said.
My response after making such a mistake reminded me of Paul’s reaction to a more serious issue in Scripture—the nature of sin.
The apostle admits to not knowing why he does things he knows he shouldn’t do and doesn’t want to do (ROM. 7:15). Affirming that Scripture determines right and wrong (V. 7), he acknowledges the real, complex war constantly waging between the flesh and the spirit in the struggle against sin (VV. 15–23). Confessing his own weaknesses, he offers hope for victory now and forever (VV. 24–25).
When we surrender our lives to Christ, He gives us His Holy Spirit who empowers us to choose to do right (8:8–10). As He enables us to obey God’s Word, we can avoid the searing sin that separates us from the abundant life God promises those who love Him. - XOCHITL DIXON
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

돌들과의 만남
현대의 예루살렘은 글자 그대로 오랜 세월 동안의 전쟁으로 파괴된 옛 도시의 잔해 위에 세워졌습니다. 우리 가족이 그곳을 방문했을 때 우리는 비아돌로로사(슬픔의 길)를 걸었습니다. 전해지는 이야기에 의하면 예수님이 십자가를 지고 그 길을 걸으셨다고 합니다. 날씨가 더워서 우리는 쉬기 위해 잠시 멈추어, 시온 자매 수녀원의 시원한 지하실로 내려갔습니다. 그곳에서 호기심을 자아내는 물건을 발견했는데, 그것은 최근 공사 중 발굴된 옛 도로 포장용 돌이었습니다. 그 돌의 표면에는 로마병정들이 한가할 때 놀던 놀이가 새겨져 있었습니다.
그 특별한 돌들은, 아마도 예수님 시대보다는 후대의 것일지도 모르지만, 그 당시의 나의 영적인 삶에 대해 깊이 생각해보게 해주었습니다. 한가할 때 무료하게 시간을 보내고 있었던 군인처럼, 나도 그냥 안주하여 하나님과 다른 사람들에게 관심을 갖지 않고 있었습니다. 하지만 내가 서 있던 데서 멀지 않은 곳에서 주님이 우리의 잘못과 불순종을 친히 감당하신 채, 매 맞으시고, 조롱당하시고, 모욕당하셨다는 것을 생각하고는 나는 깊이 감동되었습니다.
“그가 찔림은 우리의 허물 때문이요 그가 상함은 우리의 죄악 때문이라 그가 징계를 받으므로 우리는 평화를 누리고 그가 채찍에 맞으므로 우리는 나음을 받았도다”(이사야 53:5).
그 돌들과의 만남은 내 모든 죄보다 더 큰 예수님의 사랑의 은혜를 계속해서 나에게 말해주고 있습니다.

An Encounter with Stones
After centuries of war and destruction, the modern city of Jerusalem is literally built on its own rubble. During a family visit, we walked the Via Dolorosa (the Way of Sorrow), the route tradition says Jesus followed on His way to the cross. The day was hot, so we paused for a rest and descended to the cool basement of the Convent of the Sisters of Zion. There I was intrigued by the sight of ancient pavement stones unearthed during recent construction—stones etched with games played by Roman soldiers during their idle moments.
Those particular stones, even though likely from a period later than Jesus, caused me to ponder my spiritual life at the time. Like a bored soldier passing time in idle moments, I had become complacent and uncaring toward God and others. I was deeply moved by remembering that near the place I was standing, the Lord was beaten, mocked, insulted, and abused as He took all of my fail-ure and rebellion on Himself.
“He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed” (ISA. 53:5).
My encounter with the stones still speaks to me of Jesus’s loving grace that is greater than all my sin. - DAVID MCCASLAND

Those particular stones, even though likely from a period later than Jesus, caused me to ponder my spiritual life at the time. 워싱턴 DC에 있는 국립미술관을 방문했을 때, 나는 ‘바람’이라는 명화를 보게 되었습니다. 그 그림은 폭풍이 숲을 가로질러 가는 것을 보여주고 있었는데, 가늘고 키가 큰 나무들이 왼쪽으로 기울어져 있었고, 우거진 수풀들도 같은 방향으로 쏠려 있었습니다.
더욱 큰 영적인 의미에서 볼 때, 성령님은 믿는 자들을 하나님의 선하심과 진리의 방향으로 기울어지게 하실 수 있습니다. 성령님과 동행한다면 우리는 더 담대해지고 더 사랑할 수 있게 되리라고 기대할 수 있습니다. 또한 우리의 욕망을 어떻게 다스려야 하는지에 대해서도 더 잘 분별하게 될 것입니다(디모데후서 1:7).
그러나 어떤 상황 속에서 성령께서 우리를 영적성장과 변화 쪽으로 이끌어도, 우리는 “못합니다.”라고 반응할 때가 있습니다. 이렇게 성령님의 설득을 계속 완강하게 거스리는 것은 성경이 “성령을 소멸하는”(데살로니가전서 5:19) 행위라고 부르는 것입니다. 그리고 시간이 지나면서 한 때 잘못이라고 여겼던 것들이 그리 나쁘지 않게 여겨지기도 합니다.

Invisible Influence
On a visit to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, I saw a masterpiece called The Wind. The painting showed a storm moving through a wooded area. Tall, thin trees leaned to the left. Bushes thrashed in the same direction.
In an even more powerful sense, the Holy Spirit is able to sway believers in the direction of God’s goodness and truth. If we go along with the Spirit, we can expect to become more courageous and more loving. We will also become more discerning about how to handle our desires (2 TIM. 1:7).
In some situations, however, the Spirit nudges us toward spiritual growth and change, but we respond with a “no.” Continually stonewalling this conviction is what Scripture calls “quench[ing] the Spirit” (1 THESS. 5:19). Over time, things we once considered wrong appear not to be quite as bad.
When our relationship with God seems distant and disconnected, this may be because the Spirit’s conviction has been repeatedly brushed aside. The longer this goes on, the harder it is to see the root of the problem. Thankfully, we can pray and ask God to show us our sin. If we turn away from sin and recommit ourselves to Him, God will forgive us and revive the power and influence of His Spirit within us. - JENNIFER BENSON SCHULDT

Room 5020
Jay Bufton turned his hospital room into a lighthouse.
The fifty-two-year-old husband, father, high school teacher, and coach was dying of cancer, but his room—Room 5020—became a beacon of hope for friends, family, and hospital workers. Because of his joyful attitude and strong faith, nurses wanted to be assigned to Jay. Some even came to see him during off-hours.
Even as his once-athletic body was wasting away, he greeted anyone and everyone with a smile and encouragement. One friend said, “Every time I visited Jay he was upbeat, positive, and filled with hope. He was, even while looking cancer and death in the face, living out his faith.”
At Jay’s funeral, one speaker noted that Room 5020 had a special meaning. He pointed to Genesis 50:20, in which Joseph says that although his brothers sold him into slavery, God turned the tables and accomplished something good: “the saving of many lives.” Cancer invaded Jay’s life, but by recognizing God’s hand at work Jay could say that “God intended it for good.” That’s why Jay could use even the ravages of cancer as an open door to tell others about Jesus.
What a legacy of unwavering trust in our Savior even as death was knocking at the door! What a testimony of confidence in our good and trustworthy God! - DAVE BRANON

“빅 브라운”이라는 갈색 송어가 가을에 둥지를 만드는 의식을 시작하면서 오위히 강에 알을 낳습니다. 우리는 그들이 자갈이 깔린 낮은 곳에 구멍을 파고 둥지를 만드는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.
현명한 낚시꾼은 물고기들이 산란할 때 방해하면 안 된다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 그들은 알을 짓밟을까봐 자갈 위를 걸어 다니지 않으며, 둥지의 상류로 헤쳐 가서 혹시 그것들을 질식시킬지도 모를 잔해를 제거합니다. 그들은 둥지 근처에서 휴식을 취하고 있는 송어들을 보며 잡고 싶은 유혹을 느끼지만 참고 잡지 않습니다.
이런 조심성은 도덕적이고 책임 있는 낚시 예절의 한 모습이지만, 거기엔 보다 더 심오하고 고상한 이유가 있습니다.
성경은 하나님께서 이 세상을 우리 인간들에게 주셨다는 사실을 강조합니다(창세기 1:28-30). 그것은 우리에게 사용하라고 주신 것이지만, 그것을 사랑하는 사람으로서 사용해야 합니다.

Creation Care
The “big browns” are spawning in the Owyhee River—brown trout beginning their fall nesting ritual. You can see them excavating their nests in the gravelly shallows.
Wise fishermen know that fish are spawning and try not to disturb them. They avoid walking on gravel bars where they might trample the eggs, or wading upstream from the nests where they might dislodge debris that can smother them. And they don’t fish for these trout, though it’s tempting to do so as they rest near their nests.
These precautions are part of an ethic that governs responsible fishing. But there is a deeper and a better cause.
The Scriptures stress the fact that God has given us the earth (GEN. 1:28–30). It is ours to use, but we must use it as those who love it.
I muse on the work of God’s hands: a partridge calling across a canyon, a bull elk bugling up a fight, a herd of antelope far off in the distance, a brook trout and its kaleidoscopic rose moles, a mother otter playing in a stream with her pups—I love all these things, for they have been given to me for my delight, out of my Father’s great love.

하나님이 안고 계심
어느 날 오후 언니와 조카들과의 점심식사가 끝날 때쯤 언니가 세 살 배기 애니카에게 낮잠을 잘 시간이라고 말했습니다. 놀란 얼굴로 “모니카 이모는 오늘 아직도 나를 안아주지 않았는데!” 라고 말하며 반대하는 아이의 눈에는 눈물이 그렁그렁 했습니다. 언니는 미소를 지으며 “알았어. 이모가 너를 먼저 안아줄 거야. 얼마나 안아줘야 해?” 하자, 애니카가 “5분” 하고 대답했습니다.
조카를 안고 있으면서, 내가 노력하지 않아도 사랑을 하고 사랑을 받는 것이 어떤 것인지를 계속 상기시켜주는 조카에게 고마운 생각이 들었습니다. 나는 우리가 신앙여정을 통해 우리가 상상할 수 있는 것보다 훨씬 더 풍성하게 하나님의 사랑을 경험하며 배운다는 사실을 때때로 잊어버린다고 생각합니다(에베소서 3:18). 우리가 그런 핵심을 놓치면, 예수님이 말씀하신 탕자의 비유에 나오는 형처럼 하나님이 이미 모든 것을 다 주셨는데도 하나님의 인정을 받기 위해 필사적으로 노력하는 우리의 모습을 발견하게 됩니다(누가복음 15:25-32).

As I was nearing the end of lunch with my sister and her children one afternoon, my sister told my three-year-old niece, Annica, it was time to get ready for her nap. Her face filled with alarm. “But Aunt Monica did not hold me yet today!” she objected, tears filling her eyes. My sister smiled. “Okay, she may hold you first—how long do you need?” “Five minutes,” she replied.
As I held my niece, I was grateful for how, without even trying, she constantly reminds me what it looks like to love and be loved. I think sometimes we forget that our faith journey is one of learning to experience love—God’s love—more fully than we can imagine (EPH. 3:18). When we lose that focus, we can find ourselves, like the older brother in Jesus’s parable of the prodigal son, trying desperately to win God’s approval while missing out on all He has already given us (LUKE 15:25–32).
Psalm 131 is one prayer in Scripture that can help us to “become like little children” (MATT. 18:3) and to let go of the battle in our mind over what we don’t understand (PS. 131:1). Instead, through time with Him we can return to a place of peace (V. 2), finding the hope we need (V. 3) in His love—as calm and quiet as if we were children again in our mothers’ arms (V. 2). - MONICA BRANDS

마크 래버튼은 ‘이름대로 되다’라는 글에서 이름의 힘에 대해 이렇게 썼습니다. “어느 날 나를 ‘음악적인’ 사람이라고 불러준 음악가 친구가 내게 끼친 영향을 나는 지금도 느낄 수 있습니다. 어느 누구도 나를 그렇게 불러준 적이 없었습니다. 나는 악기를 연주할 줄도 모르고, 노래를 잘 하는 것도 아니었습니다. 그러나......그가 나를 알아주고 사랑해주고 있음을 느꼈습니다. [그 친구는] 참된 나의 모습을 알았고 인정해주었으며 평가해주었습니다.”
아마도 예수님이 이름을 새로 지어주셨을 때 시몬이 느낀 것도 이와 같지 않을까 생각됩니다. 안드레는 예수님이 메시아이심을 알고는 즉시 형제 시몬을 찾아 예수님 앞으로 데리고 왔습니다 (요한복음 1:41-42). 예수님은 그의 영혼을 깊이 들여다보시고, 시몬의 내면의 참된 모습을 알아보고 인정해주셨습니다. 주님은 그가 실패할 것과 문제를 일으키게 될 그의 급한 성격도 보셨지만, 그것보다도 교회의 지도자가 될 그의 잠재력을 먼저 보셨습니다. 예수님은 그를 게바라고 부르셨는데, 그것은 반석이라는 뜻을 지닌 베드로라는 이름의 아람어입니다(요한복음 1:42; 마태복음 16:18 참조).

A New Name
In the article “Leading by Naming,” Mark Labberton wrote about the power of a name. He said: “I can still feel the impact of a musical friend who one day called me ‘musical.’ No one had ever called me that. I didn’t really play an instrument. I was no soloist. Yet . . . I instantly felt known and loved. . . . [He] noticed, validated, and appreciated something deeply true about me.”
Perhaps this is what Simon felt when Jesus renamed him. After Andrew was convinced that Jesus was the Messiah, he immediately found his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus (JOHN 1:41–42). Jesus peered into his soul and validated and appreciated something deeply true about Simon. Yes, Jesus saw the failure and impetuous nature that would get him into trouble. But more than that He saw the potential of Simon to become a leader in the church. Jesus named him Cephas—Aramaic for Peter—a rock (JOHN 1:42; SEE MATT. 16:18).
And so it is with us. God sees our pride, anger, and lack of love for others, but He also knows who we are in Christ. He calls us justified and reconciled (ROM. 5:9–10); forgiven, holy, and beloved (COL. 2:13; 3:12); chosen and faithful (REV. 17:14). Remember how God sees you and seek to let that define who you are. - MARVIN WILLIAMS

선한 목자
남편과 함께 병실에 앉아 초조하게 기다리고 있었습니다. 우리 어린 아들이 눈 교정수술을 받고 있었는데, 초조하고 걱정이 되어 가슴이 울렁거렸습니다. 하나님께 기도하며 주님의 평안을 간구하려고 성경책을 대충 넘겨보고 있었는데, 이사야 40장이 생각나서 새롭게 내게 주시는 말씀이 없을까 하여 그곳의 익숙한 구절들을 읽어보았습니다.
말씀을 보다가, 주님은 “목자같이 양 떼를 먹이시며 어린 양을 그 팔로 모아 품에 안으시는”(11절) 분임을 상기시켜주는 아주 오래된 말씀을 숨을 죽이고 바라보았습니다. 바로 그 순간 두려움이 떠나갔고, 주님이 우리를 안으시고 인도하시며 보살피신다는 것을 깨닫게 되었습니다. 나는 조용히 속삭였습니다. ‘제게 필요한 것이 바로 이것이었습니다, 주님!’ 수술이 진행되는 동안, 그리고 그 이후에도 나는 하나님의 평안이 나를 감싸고 있음을 느꼈습니다(감사하게도 수술은 잘 되었습니다).
주님은 이사야 선지자를 통해 그의 백성들에게 주님이 그들의 목자가 되어 매일의 삶 속에서 그들을 인도하고 평안을 주겠다고 약속하셨습니다. 우리 또한 우리의 불안한 마음을 주님께 말씀드리고 그분의 사랑과 평안을 간구하면 주님이 부드럽게 보살펴주시는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 우리는 주님이 우리의 선한 목자이시며, 그 품에 우리를 안으시고, 그분의 영원한 팔로 우리를 인도해주신다는 것을 압니다.

The Good Shepherd
I sat in the hospital room with my husband, waiting anxiously. Our young son was having corrective eye surgery and I felt the butterflies jostle in my stomach as I fretted and worried. I tried to pray, asking God to give me His peace. As I leafed through my Bible, I thought about Isaiah 40, so I turned to the familiar passage, wondering if anything fresh would strike me.
As I read, I caught my breath, for the words from so many years ago reminded me that the Lord “tends his flock like a shepherd” as He “gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart” (V. 11). In that moment my anxiety left me as I realized the Lord was holding us, leading us, and caring for us. That was just what I needed, Lord, I breathed silently. I felt enveloped in God’s peace during and after the surgery (which thankfully went well).
The Lord promised His people through the prophet Isaiah that He would be their shepherd, guiding them in their daily lives and giving them comfort. We too can know His gentle tending as we tell Him our anxious thoughts and seek His love and peace. We know that He is our Good Shepherd, holding us close to His heart and carrying us in His everlasting arms. - AMY BOUCHER PYE
