슬플 때 하나님을 신뢰하기

“ 파파 존”이라 불리는 이가 말기 암 선고를 받았을 때, 그와 그의 아내 캐롤은 하나님이 그 병의 경과를 온라인에서 공유하라고 하는 부르심을 느꼈습니다. 그들 부부는 하나님이 자신들의 연약함을 통해 역사하시리라 믿고, 그들의 기쁨과 슬픔과 고통의 순간들을 2년 동안 온라인에 올렸습니다. 캐롤이 그녀의 남편이 “예수님의 품에 안겼다”고 썼을 때 수백 명의 사람들이 답장을 보내왔는데, 그중 많은 사람들이 그 부부가 병상일지를 공유해준 것에 대해 감사했습니다. 어떤 이는 언젠가 “우리 모두 죽을 수밖에

TRUSTING GOD IN TIMES OF SORROW

When a man known as “Papa John” learned he had terminal cancer, he and his wife, Carol, sensed God calling them to share their illness journey online. Believing that God would minister through their vulnerability, they posted their moments of joy and their sorrow and pain for two years. When Carol wrote that her husband “went into the outstretched arms of Jesus,” hundreds of people responded, with many thanking Carol for their openness. One person remarked that hearing about dying from a Christian point of view was healthy, for “we all have to die” someday. Another said that although she’d never met the couple personally, she couldn’t express how much encouragement she’d received through their witness of trusting God. Although Papa John sometimes felt excruciating pain, he and Carol shared their story so they could demonstrate how God upheld them. They knew their testimony would bear fruit for God, echoing what Paul wrote to Timothy when he suffered: “I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day” (2 TIMOTHY 1:12) . God can use even the death of a loved one to strengthen our faith in Him (and the faith of others) through the grace we receive in Christ Jesus (V. 9) .
